Description
DESCRIPTION: Fairbanks double-sided painted wood sign "Fairbanks Standard RR Track Scale". Two hooks along top edge for hanging. Fairbanks Scales has been manufacturing scales since 1830. The company was started by two brothers, Thaddeus and Erastus as E. & T. Fairbanks Company in St. Johnsbury, Vermont in 1824. Originally a foundry producing Thaddeus' inventions (a plow and a stove), the brothers realized the current weighing system was inaccurate. Thaddeus set about inventing a better, more accurate weighing machine which he did in 1830. The scale was an immediate success and the company began a long and successful period of expansion and growth. The company continues to excel in the production of precision and bench scales, heavy capacity truck scales and railroad track scales. MEASUREMENTS: 71-5/8" long x 19-5/8" wide x 1-3/4" thick. CONDITION: Hooks are new. Wear to paint throughout especially along edges and corners. Minor fading and scratches to surfaces consistent with age and use. Staining, marking and residue on surfaces. Minor split in center where boards are separating from age.
