Colonel General commanding the 14th Panzer Corps who fought in Stalingrad before assuming command of 1st Panzer Army in 1943 fighting on the Western Front and then back to the East; awarded the Knights Cross with Swords and Diamonds. The only one-armed general in the Army, he was mortally injured in a plane crash. War-date DS, 2pp, 8¼"x11", Russia, Dec 10, 1941. Approval of Award List for 50 named soldiers of the 16th Artillery Regiment on verso for Distinguished Service Cross, Second Class. Darkly signed as General major and Division Commander.
