Description
Peru Central Coast, Moche culture, ca. 400 to 600 CE. This is a sheet copper maskette with molded, broad facial features. There are four attachment tabs on the back of the mask, all of which remain; these would have been used for attaching it to a figure. Copper slag, evidence for copper smelting, has been found at several archaeological sites in the Altiplano of Peru. Size: 2-1/4" W x 2" H; 2-3/4" H with custom stand (5.7 cm x 5 cm; 7 cm).
