Description
The Golfers: A Grand Match Played Over the St. Andrews Links', a steel engraving of 1850 by Charles E. Wagstaffe after the original oil of 1847 by Charles Lees RSA depicting a match in 1844 on the Royal and Ancient Golf Course at St. Andrews. A number of famous golfers of the period can be identified within the many figures that make up the gallery and players. The match is between Sir David Baird and Sir Ralph Anstruther playing against Major Playfair and John Campbell at St. Andrews. Printed by W. Wolding of Edinburgh. measures 25 x 37 inches with an overall size of 27.5 x 39.5 inches. Inside measures 25 x 37 inches with an overall size of 27.5 x 39.5 inches.
Condition
Very good. Not laid down, wide margins, apparently a full untrimmed sheet, no holes, tears, repairs, scratches or major stain. Overall uneven toning, though good color.
