Virginia, Prince Wm. County, May 1781, ~ 16.5" t x 10.25" w. Court trial of Will alias Billy, alias William, a Mulatto slave, the property of John Taylor, Esq., for Treason. Document describes court proceedings incl. the testimony of several witnesses. The finding of the court indicates the slave is guilty and that "...he suffer death as the punishment for high treason and the same be put in execution the 25th instant between the hours of 11 and 2 of the clock." The court finds also that the slave is worth 27,000 pounds sterling which is ordered to be certified. Other interesting entries. Very unusual subject matter, rare Revolutionary War era document. Condition Fine for the age.
