Description
An Egyptian scarab mounted in a gold ring. The scarab is a very nice New Kingdom example, c. 1570 - 1075 BC, with well-carved body with hollowed interior, the base adorned with seated deity and 'nefer' sign below a solar barque. The scarab is well-preserved with much green glaze remaining and it is set into a 12k gold ring (stamped in Arabic numbers) and flanked by erect cobras, each wearing a solar disk. The ring is quite sturdy and wearable at a ring size over about 9 1/2. Scarab itself measures about 1.6 x 1.2 cm. Ex Joseph T. Gorman collection.
