Description
This is an older glass bottle in compressed form, with recessed oval foot and a flat lip. The cap is agate. The blue overlay glass is thick and the design of six horses is rather unusual. One panel shows two confronting horses in prancing position, each with one leg up and three legs standing. This type of pose is often associated with the pottery horses of the Tang Dynasty CE 618 to 907. The rulers of the Tang Dynasty had nomadic origins and horses were an important part of their daily living. They rode, played polo, fought, hunt, all on horseback. During the high Tang period, horses were trained to perform dances and do dressage. On the other side are four horses all engaged in action - striding, jumping and prancing. The decorative elements are quite unusual and well done. Date: post 1950's Dimensions: 6 cm wide, 8 cm high Weight: 2.5 ounces - 70.8 gm.
