Jon Sligar was a Carmel-by-the-Sea "Artist in Residence" since1973. Before that, he taught fine art at his own art school in the San Francisco Bay Area. He attained a fine arts degree from a California State University, along with a Certificate from Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, in Oxford, England, and has exhibited in many fine art galleries including Gallerie Amsterdam, Classic Art Gallery, Simic Art Galleries, and Lisette's Gallery.

“When I was a young man, I used to go to San Francisco Nite Spots to hear Jazz. I took my sketchbook. This painting is a composite of contemporary jazz stars,done in my studio... If you hang it over your music system, and play some soft jazz,and turn down the lights, the painting has been known to come alive."
