Description
Emil Nolde (German, 1867-1956). "Kinder und Strassenmusikant (Children and Busker)" - 1909, etching on wove paper, edition of at least 8, pencil signed lower right margin. Small etching depicting three toddler children clustered to front of a street musician or busker playing a horned instrument, the impression of a house or structure to right background. Framed approximately 15.25" x 13.75". Image size approximately 4.625" x 3". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Benno & Babette Rothschild, Columbus, Georgia. Note: a slightly different composition of this same scene, "Kinder und Strassenmusikant" exists in two states, the first state in an edition of approximately 5 and the second (final) state in an edition of 12. The etching in this lot apparently is an edition of 8, first and only state. Reference: page 447 of the catalogue
