Robert Riggs (American (Illinois/ Pennsylvania), 1896-1970). "Accident Ward" - circa 1942, lithograph on wove paper, pencil titled lower left margin, pencil signed lower right margin, printed inscription lower right margin "Copyright, 1942, Smith, Kline & French Laboratories". Dark genre scene print depicting an early 20th century hospital or clinic ward with two uniformed policemen carrying in a battered and beaten African American man, shirtless with torn pants and bare feet, doctors at the patient's head guiding him onto a gurney, in the background another doctor seated on a stool and treating a patient, the whole rendered in an editorial illustrative manner. Sheet size approximately 8.625" x 11.125". Image size approximately 7.5" x 10".
