Description
Urartu, modern day Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey, ca. 9th to 6th century BCE. This is a small section of a bronze belt from Urartu (sometimes known as the Kingdom of Ararat, or the Kingdom of Van); it has a hinge that has since been frozen in time. The design on the belt is a four legged animal with pointed ears that may be a cat -- Van has long been associated with the animals. Size: 1.75" L x 1.3" W (4.4 cm x 3.3 cm).
