Roman Empire, ca. 43 to 410 CE. A beautiful bronze "crossbow" fibula or brooch used to fasten a cloak of a Roman soldier and citizen. Given its attractive design, this fibula also served as an impressive decorative ornament. Yes, the brooches of the ancients were both serviceable and beautiful! Gorgeous green patina. Size: 3.5" L x 2" W (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm)
