Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971)
Arne Jacobsen is one of the most significant architects and designers of the 20th century. Jacobson was a passionate drawer from an early age. He learned the trade of a stonemason and completed his studies in architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. After graduating, he worked as an architect and designed his first furniture items. He worked on various projects and designed the Århus town hall. During the Second World War, Jacobsen fled to Sweden. Upon his return to Copenhagen, he became professor at the Academy and continued working on designs, for which he received numerous accolades. Today, his furniture designs in particular are world-famous.
Fritz Hansen (est. 1872)
The Danish traditional company dates back to master carpenter Fritz Hansen’s workshop, established in 1872. Under his grandson, Fritz Hansen began working closely together with design greats such as Kare Klint and Arne Jacobsen. In the 1940s, they produced designs by Hans J. Wegener and Børge Mogensen. Especially in the field of seated furniture, der Fritz Hansen succeeded in producing numerous design classics that today enjoy cult status.
