Description
Patty Prather Thum (American, 1853-1926) oil on canvas still life of two roses. A white rose and a pink rose with green stems and leaves rest on a white table against a brown background. Signed lower right "PATTY THUM". Housed in a simple wood frame. Sight - 7 1/2"H x 11 5/8"W. Framed - 13 5/8"H x 17 5/8"W. Biography (Courtesy of AskArt, The Artists' Bluebook) : Patty Prather Thum studied art at Vassar College under Henry Van Ingen, and at the New York Art Students League with William Merritt Chase, Henry Mowbray, and Lemuel Wiles. Thum returned to Louisville in 1870 where she maintained a studio for 35 years. Thum received an honorable mention for book illustration at Chicago's 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. She also exhibited at the 1898 New York State Fair and the St. Louis Exposition of 1904. Provenance - Lexington, Kentucky area collection.
