Description
Assortment of six (6) Southwest baskets and Skin Drum. 1st grouping: 6 Southwest Native American baskets of various shapes, sizes, and materials including a coiled Navajo wedding basket with off white leather loop in center, a shallow coiled bowl basket with lid and detached brown leather strap, a small coiled conical basket, a coiled basket with damaged handle, a coiled serving basket, and two shallow woven baskets or varying sizes. Navajo wedding basket: 15 1/4" dia. 2nd item: Southwest Native American skin drum. Skins on either side of drum attached to hollow section of tree by criss crossing light brown leather straps. 15" H x 11 1/4" dia. Provenance: Property from the estate of Dorothy Louise Luhrs, PhD, (1910-1972), Archaeologist with University of New Mexico/School of American Research Field School, whose studies and research included the Una Via Chaco Canyon, NM, Largo Canyon, NM, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Hoopa Indian Reservation in northern California. Condition
1st grouping: Overall good condition. 2nd item: Few sections of leather strapping broken, skin slightly discolored, edges of skins wrinkled to certain degree due to tanning process, areas of bark missing from tree section.
