Early American William and Mary Style Carved Oak Caned Armchair, 19th c., probably Pennsylvania, the triple crested arched back with a caned splat, over a caned seat within scroll carved arms, turned and block legs on trifid feet joined by turned stretchers, H.- 51 1/4 in., W.- 25 1/4 in., D.- 21 1/2 in.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. The cane is woven into the chair. There are apparent repairs noted to the crest rail at both sides. A slight loosening of the joints near the lower back rails. A possible repair to one arm is detected near the joint. There is some heavy wear to the arms and terminals. Some areas of loss to the finish on the cane. There are some slight chips and mild wear to the stretchers and legs. A lovely example.
