Item Details

Description

A Vermont Central Railroad brass baggage tag. It measures 1 3/4" by 2 1/4". It has a rolled edge and it is clearly marked as Thomas's patent "Feb 19, 1867". This patent involves a top section with a rolled edge that takes an additional insert. This patent uses a cardstock insert with routing. Another small brass tag would be used as the passenger receipt. When not in use the passenger receipt rests in the top slot. Quite clever. This is an early example because the Vermont Central Railroad became the Central Vermont Railroad in 1873. It has serial number 14528. A nice piece of New England railroad history.
