Description
Costumes of rich inhabitants of Damascus and Armenian priests in Jerusalem. Israel/Armenia. 1859.

Print of steel engraving titled „Costumes des Riches habitantes de Damas. Costumes des pretres Armeniens a Jerusalem“.

Drawn by Lalaisse.

Engraved by Leonce Lhuillier.

From „Le Monde Histoire Tous les peuples depuis les temps les plus recules“ by M. E. De Lostalot-Bachoue. Paris. 1859.

Jerusalem located on a plateau in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Israelis and Palestinians both claim Jerusalem as their capital, as Israel maintains its primary governmental institutions there and the State of Palestine ultimately foresees it as its seat of power; however, neither claim is widely recognized internationally.

Armenia officially the Republic of Armenia is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located in Western Asia, it is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south.
