Description
This circa 1820 etching of Netley Abbey by John Constable is signed with his monogram JC in the upper left hand corner of the plate. The frame verso has handwritten information on it and the original London art dealers paper label.
One of only two or possibly three etchings which were entirely executed by Constable. His other prints all being mezzotint created in conjunction with David Lucas. There was no published edition of this etching. The only impressions pulled were a few proofs which constable gave to friends and to his family. Measurements: 5.25" x 7.5" (13.3 x 19 cm) plate size, 17.75" x 14.75" frame. Condition: Some age soiling to margins, edge wear to frame, see images. Shipping weight is approx 3.5 lbs.
