Description
Matched pair of footed 19th c. Baltimore Sterling Salt Cellars. Heavy Floral Repoussé, each measures 2x2x1.40. Total sterling weight 84 grams. These are monogrammed underneath and and the date mark 1871 to 1896. (a 25 year anniversary or birthday). Both marked with James R. Arminger and one also has the Baltimore Sterling Hallmark. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC - Washington DC Private Estate. Founded by James R. Armiger as a successor to Justis & Armiger. Armiger died in a house fire in 1896, and the business was incorporated that same year and the name was changed to the James R. Armiger Co.
