Paris, France, 1825 CE. This is a trigesimo-secundo (32mo)-sized collection of eight volumes, published in Paris by Imprimerie de Casimir, of Les Mille et une Nuits, Contes Arabes traduits en français (The Thousand and One Nights, Arab stories translated into French). The books are calfskin with gilded spines and this edition is notable from earlier ones because of its 36 engraved illustrations. This translation, by archaeologist and orientalist Antoine Galland and first published from 1704 to 1717, was the first European version of the Thousand and One Night tales. Galland derived it from an Arabic text of the 14th century Syrian version of the stories and some other collected sources. With the additional sources, he added some tales not in the original Arabic edition of 1001 -- notably "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" and "Aladdin"! Size of each volume: 1" L x 3.5" W x 5.5" H (2.5 cm x 8.9 cm x 14 cm).

Beautiful condition for books of this age with slight wear/aging; all binding excellent and spines easy to read. The pages have very slight wear to their edges but overall these books seem to have never been read and to have been kept in a dry, dark room.
