Description: This photograph depicts the Sloop Yacht, "Katrina" at sea with sails at full mast. The seas are relatively calm with a stiff breeze evidently pulling the yacht along the waves.
History: According to the August 1889 issue of Outing magazine, Katrina was a 70' sloop. According to the September 1899 issue, Robert E. Tod was the owner. Katrina was built in 1888 by Henry Piepgras at City Island, NY. He adds: "Iron / Keel, Sloop. L.O.A.: 91'3" x L.W.L.: 69'2" x Beam: 21'6" x Draft: 9'3" Designer: A. Carey Smith. Builder: Henry Piepgras, City Island. Owner: E.S. and H. D. Auchincloss."
