History: Arthur A. Widmer, (1897-1991) was an American Impressionist who became well known for his paintings of the Delaware Water Gap. Primarily a landscape painter, he worked in the impasto style, using rich colors and the broad strokes of a pallet knife to depict the woods and water of his native Northeast Pennsylvania. He was a contemporary of Cullen Yates, Jack Savitsky and Sterling Strausser.
