The Mercedes 230 SL, which owners of the 300 SL found too simple and drivers of the 190 SL too expensive, soon convinced both target groups. It turned out a great success, not least for its unique and timelessly elegant shape. The modern line matched the tastes of the 60s and the 70s, which were coined by Finish design furniture, Cubist architecture and sporty and elegant fashion. The 150 hp strong 230 SL was followed by the 250 SL in 1966 and by the 170 hp strong 280 SL in 1968. The inwardly bulged hardtop improved its aerodynamics, access and safety and led to the description “Pagoda“, which never was officially used though.

The 280 SL offered here features a perfect equipment: it has the 170 hp engine, the cloth folding top below the hardtop is in good condition and the famous third emergency seat is lengthwise installed in rear. The general solid car with a plausible low mileage shows no traces of corrosion. A lot of well-tended accessory parts are included, among them the Becker Monza radio. The interior is kept in wood and leather and a battery disconnect switch can be found in the motor compartment. The recent paintwork was thoroughly planned in the minutest details, there are only small blisters at the hardtop's top brace, which can be easily mended. This model series' increase in value is self-evident – finding a good model such as this leaves no reason to hesitate. Especially not in case of a car that is worthwhile both driving and preserving.

The vehicle has to be paid and collected within 7 business days after the auction. The collection may be made via collection by the costumer or via collection by a transport company. A timely collection can also made via a commissioning of Auctionata to a fee-based transport (flat shipping rate). If the time period lapses without a result, the buyer has to pay storage costs in the amount of 25, - € per day.
