Sheet size: 21.3 x 15.3 cm
The image area of this small ballpoint pen drawing is formed by a frame of thin lines. In it is a composition of peaked abstract forms can be seen, which are colored with hatching in green, yellow and blue. The composition is slightly horizontal pronounced and thus blends harmoniously with the slightly vertically emphasized image area.
The drawing is monogramed and dated lower right ‘CA 68’, additionally signed lower right ‘Cavael’ and inscribed lower center ‘Original’ with ballpoint. Glue remains at the reverse upper sheet edge are visibly showing thought on recto. The sheet is hinged into a passepartout at the reverse upper edge. It measures 21.3 x 15.3 cm.
Rolf Cavael (1898-1979)
Rolf Cavael initially trained as a photographer and worked in the film business. From 1924 to 1926 he studied typography at the Städel School in Frankfurt. He then worked as a teacher of applied graphics at the Frankfurt trade school. An encounter with Kandinsky in 1930 influenced Cavael artistic work. 1933 there was a first major exhibition of his work, which was closed by the Nazis. Cavael was banned from painting. After the war he resumed his artistic work again and founded together with fellow artists, the group ZEN 49 in 1949. Rolf Cavael is one of the most important representatives of non-representational painting in Germany. (fea)
