DESCRIPTION: Joshua Meador (California/Mississippi, 1911-1965). Oil on canvas. Storm Waters. Depicts rocky shoreline. Signed to lower left "Joshua Meador". Signed verso in black "Joshua Meador 1351 Storm Waters". With an attached label to the stretcher from Carmel Highlands Gallery of California. Wooden frame. Meador graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and in 1935 moved to La Crescenta, California where he lived until the 1960s. He then moved to Casper in Northern California. Meador is known for landscape and seascape painting, as well as animation. PROVENANCE: From the Saul and Florence Putterman Collection, Sarasota, Florida. Saul Putterman is an entrepreneur and founder of apparel and fashion manufacturing enterprises in New York, Florida, and Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Florence Putterman is a highly regarded artist who received her BS degree at New York University and her Masters of Fine Arts Degree at Penn State University. Originally from New York City, The Puttermans have made their home for over 50 years in Selinsgrove, PA, and winter in Sarasota, Florida. They are active humanitarians and philanthropists who collected fine modern and contemporary art and tribal art during their lives. MEASUREMENTS: 17-1/4" x 13-1/2". Overall with frame 26" x 21-3/4". CONDITION: Water stain to top left of cloth mat. Wear to frame.
