DESCRIPTION: Florence Putterman (American, B. 1927). Louise Nevelson style painted wood wall sculpture. Marked verso "Florence Putterman ala Nevelson". Florence Grace Putterman was awarded a National Endowment Grant in 1979 and has been featured in many solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Her paintings and prints can be seen in collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Brooklyn Museum (New York), and the Chicago Art Institute (Chicago). Putterman is listed in Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in American Women, and Who's Who in America. PROVENANCE: From the Saul and Florence Putterman Collection, Sarasota, Florida. Saul Putterman, founder of apparel and fashion manufacturing enterprises in New York, Florida, and Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, where he also served on the Board of Trustees at Susquehanna University. Florence Putterman is a highly regarded artist and teacher, a noted printmaker, painter and sculptor, with work is in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum and the Chicago Art Institute. The Puttermans are active humanitarians and philanthropists who collected fine modern and contemporary art, and tribal art during their lives. MEASUREMENTS: 43” x 38” x 5-1/2”.
