WILLIAM HOGARTH (British 1697-1764) AN ENGRAVING, "Hogarth Painting the Comic Muse," on wove paper, sixth state, inscription naming artist and date L/R. 15 3/4" x 14" NOTE: An adaptation of the artist's 1757 self-portrait "Hogarth Painting the Comic Muse," currently residing in the Primary Collection at the National Portrait Gallery, London. Hogarth chose this particular state, the sixth state, with the inscription "William Hogarth 1764" as the frontispiece of his collected engravings, which were published the same year. Special thanks to the National Portrait Gallery, London.
Condition
Framed and in good condition, with minor signs of variable spotting and browning. Dark clear lines, a good impression. Inspected within modern frame.
