Enamel colors on porcelain. China, late Qing to 1st half 20th cent.
An attractive vase with altogether six dragons and a compact composition of blossoms, peaches (long life symbols) and four phoenix. These, with dragons, were in China imperial symbols as well as heavenly animals. Big blue and red dragons, both firey and scaly, as well as nearly three-dimensional chi dragons on the shoulder. Tall neck with two animal-shaped handles, poss. comically portrayed shizi (lion dogs resp. Pekinese). The flared mouth is lobed and painted with gold.
