Dimensions: framed: 35 1/4" x 47". painting: 28 1/4" x 39 3/4"
Excellent condition. Some staining on bottom portion of mat only.
This is a rare original work from 1979 and this series, "Black Forest" is most often discussed as her most significant work to date.
Spectacular abstract painting. Very dramatic in person. Awesome use of color and application of paint.
Susan Moss is a Los Angeles based painter whose work has been shown in the US and throughout Europe. She graduated with a B.A. In painting, printmaking. Her graduate studies were at Otis Parson where she also taught.
Influenced by Matisse, Monet, Frank Stella, Josef Albers, Frankenthaler, Ed Moses and Chuck Arnoldi.
After she started her own studio, one of the first paintings she sold was to Tamara Thomas, an art consultant for the Security Pacific Bank, (now the Bank of America) Art Collection. The piece was a 10x2' red painting , part of Moss "cylinder" series paintings.
One of her most notable pieces, "Cinnamon Ridge", was first shown with David Findlay Jr. In New York, Moss described this acrylic and rhoplex work as "cross-current pattern" of red and green.
Some of Moss's "Earthslide" crayon drawings have also been shown at the Albright-Knox Museum in N.Y.
Some of Moss's "Black Forest" series paintings were sold to several big collectors like Robert Rowan and Frank Yablans, former head of MGM, Steve Martin, Fred Sands. A photo of Yablans living room in a 1982 issues of House and Garden magazine shows Moss " Black Forest" displayed next to a Picasso. Ms. moss has 500 collectors all over the world.
Exhibitions at S F Museum of Modern Art multiple times. Public collections including IBM, Warner Brothers, Union Bank Switzerland, Bonaventure, LACM Art, Skirball Museum, Laguna Art Museum.
