Description
Sino-Tibetan, likely 19th century. A framed thangka with pigment and gilt on silk or cotton depicting the Buddhist deity Mahottara Heruka or Hayagriva with blue-black body having 32 arms with hands each clasping an attribute, 14 legs, and 7 heads each with 3 eyes, wearing a crown and necklace of skulls, a human hide around around its chest and tiger skin around its waist, this set within a large round mandala with attendents to top and sides of many smaller buddhas seated holding various mudras amid colorful clouds, and at bottom with several more depictions of Haruka with 2, 4, and 6 arm configurations. Textile set within a frame, overall approximately 39.25" x 30.5".
