Description
French, second half 19th century. Renaissance Revival or Henri II style oak carved bookcase cabinet, in two sections, profusely carved overall with ringed lion masks, fruit and floral pendants, scrolling acanthus and guilloche. The stepped projecting pediment having a gadrooned cornice carved with three ringed lion masks over a frieze with patera blocks and guilloche carved panels above a pair of arched glazed doors bordered in scroll cut bead and reel motif headed with carved foliage opening to an adjustable shelved interior, the exterior angles carved with scrolled term figure fruit and nut cluster pilasters, the case having an frieze drawer headed with egg and dart molding above scrolling acanthus centered by a grotesque mask, the doors and pilasters carved in the same manner as above over a stepped projecting base terminating on large front bun feet. The doors and drawer with individual locking mechanisms, keys present. Approximate height 87.6”, width 43.5”, depth 19”. Provenance: From the Private Collection of Ann Jacob of Highlands, North Carolina.
Condition
Structurally sound and in overall very good condition. Glass does not appear to be original to the piece.
