Description
National Brass & Iron Works (American (Reading, Pennsylvania), 1891-1911). A converted central draft New Rochester polished brass table oil lamp uplight with cranberry opalescent round hobnail shade having flaring ruffled rim, the baluster turned brass body with allover reticulated basket weave patterning punctuated with c scrolls, acanthus leafs, leaf tips, and blank medallions. with removable oil well. Later electrification with likely original electric cording. Marked in the cast to top of oil well "THE NEW ROCHESTER" and "MADE IN U.S.". Marked in the cast to interior of oil well fitter "N.B. & I.W. READING, PA". Overall approximate height 28.375". Height to top of hobnail shade approximately 23.5". Diameter of hobnail shade approximately 9".
Condition
Overall very good condition. Shade is free of damage. One of the four clips that hold the glass chimney is broken. The collar that the shade rests on shows some oxidation and loss of finish (see image #6). Overall minor oxidation and pitting; not distracting.
