Europe, western, but with German blade, ca 1414. One of the most remarkable iron weapons we have handled. Oakeshott type XIX, manufactured between 1380 and 1400, pommel type J, recessed. Sword with thin tapered blade and partial recessed fuller and heavy circular pommel with raised center, thin tapered grip once covered in leather. At each side of the pommel is a "German" cross, each side of the blade inscribed with another pair of crosses along with "1414" and a running wolf mark etched into each side of the blade.
