Probably a classic coastal Arts & Crafts Movement era artist's colony such as Cornwall, St. Ives, Connecticut, Boston, Gloucester, Bass Rocks, Maine, Laguna Beach, Calif. etc.

AMERICAN, BRITISH or EUROPEAN or EASTERN EUROPEAN SCHOOL, 1st Quarter 20th Century: Coastal Seascape with Rocky Shoreline and Crashing Surf, oil/canvas, 27" x 37", signed distinctively but mostly illegibly lower right (please study our collage of four signature images - we feel the image at upper right of our group of four images is most legible and it also includes more area to the left where there may be some additional letter or first initial pigment remnants), extensive old pencil, crayon and chalk inscriptions on back of stretchers including numerical gallery, framing, inventory and or sale numbers and numerous names, titles, instructions and or owner or exhibition information including perhaps: Joubelieski' (??) 12XB (??) In as discovered estate condition. No holes/patches. Not lined. Original early 20th Cen 27" x 37" stretchers - we're unsure if American, English or Continental European origin (PLEASE SEE OUR EXTENSIVE ARRAY of detail images of all rear pencil indistinct unknown and undecipherable annotations, inscriptions and or signatures as well as our multiple unreadable front signature images plus our interpretations in description). Even moderate surface dirt and evenly mellowed varnish typical for being an approx. 100 year old estate find. A few concentrations of craquelure in blue sea pigments. A few scratches in the sky that are down to the primer. A couple of scattered flakes exposing the canvas. Wear to all far edges that will be covered by a rabbet once framed.
