Description
Fine One-Gallon Chicken Waterer with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, with stepped finial, ribbed lug handles, and hooded watering trough, heavily-decorated with leaves surrounding the trough and long stems bearing flower blossoms at the juncture of the trough with the body of the vessel. Additional floral decoration on each side of the waterer. Reverse decorated with a large tulip. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curved line of cobalt underneath each handle. Impressed on front with a cobalt-highlighted number 1 below a stylized leaf or clamshell. Significant restoration to finial. A restored 3 1/4" x 1 1/4" section to base on front. A 6 1/2" long horizontal Y-shaped crack at base on right side of waterer. Two 1 3/4" lines to left side of waterer. A few small in-the-firing chips to left handle. H 11 3/8".
