The Hand-Book of Artillery, for the Service of the United States. (Army and Militia). by Captain Joseph Roberts. 1861. Second Edition, Revised and Enlarged. Charleston: Evans & Cogswell, Printers. 192 Pages. Original cloth front and back boards with cobalt blue paper pastedown on front board. marbled end papers. Rare Copy with only 11 known copies including this example. The front endpaper is inscribed in pencil "Radford Wilson, On Island No. 10, Miss. River." Radford G. Wilson served at the Battle of Island Number 10 from February 28th, 1862 - April, 8, 1862. Wilson served in various Regiments including Lemoyne's 17th Arkansas Infantry Regiment Company F and the 21st Arkansas Infantry Regiment Company E. Records show that Wilson was hospitalized multiple times on August 17th, 1862 in Columbus, Mississippi, December 1, 1862 and February 3, 1863. He was captured during The Battle of Port Gibson on May 1, 1863, and was a Prisoner of War at Alton Military Prison, Alton, Illinois until he was paroled and exchanged at Cedar Point VA, June 12, 1863. He was one of a group of 1076 Confederate Prisoners of War exchanged. Book measures 3 7/8" X 5 7/8." Condition: Overall good condition. front and back
