Description
An early Steam Gauge Lamp & Lantern manufactures lantern. It has a standard vent area for Steam Gauge and it has a skirt on the base and a three priong pinch pot with a turned up rim which is also a Steam Gauge tell. The New York Lake Erie & Western was the name of the Erie Railroad after Erie Railway and before Erie Railroad. This brass top has a few dings. The metal is pitted. One very nice feature beyond the NYLE&W RR stamping is the other side of the lid has a brass plate with the owners name, "A. N. SCHULTZ" soldered onto it. This is not a common feature but sometimes found on older Brakeman's lanterns. There are numerous minor solder repairs: pot spring clips, joint clips on the cage, etc.
The globe is a very nice skinny 6" barrel with NYLE&WRR cast in a nice rectangular panel. The top and bottom rims of the globe has flakes. Because of the heavy flanges on the ends this is always a no-show when the globe is in the frame.
