"Hardy came to Mexico during the troubled 1820s as commissioner for the General Pearl and Coral Fishery of Association of London. His book touches in lively fashion on political, social, and economic matters, and includes much information on the little-known regions of Sonora and Baja California" - Hill. The folding map shows northwestern Mexico including Baja California and present-day southern Arizona and the Texas border.
