Description
DESCRIPTION: Lot of six volumes from the nineteenth- and twentieth-century in attractive bindings. Includes: 1) To Those Who See by Gwen Frostic; Presscraft Papers, 1965. Illustrated poem by artist Gwen Frostic. Published by her own printing company. Printed paper over boards. Illustrated throughout by Frostic with nature imagery. Small 8vo. Near Fine. No apparent wear beyond slight bumping to the bottom of the spine. 2) Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Illustrated by C. E. Brock. Pubished by Thomas Nelson and Sons, Ltd. Bound in red full leather with black leather spine labels and with gilt decorations to the spine and the front, edges, and interior of boards. Pink marbled endpapers. All page edges gilt. 12mo. Good. Some foxing throughout. Some warping and discoloration to boards. In Mylar jacket. 3) Shirley by Charlotte Bronte. Illustrated. London: Smith, Elder, and Company, 1910. Bound in blue-black half leather with marbled paper on the boards. Gilt titles and decorations to spine. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Volume 2 of 7 of The Life and Works of Charlotte Bronte and Her Sisters. Small 8vo. Good. Some foxing, mostly to page edges and not affecting text or illustrations. Some rubbing to the spine, resulting in discolorations. 4) Evenings with the Sacred Poets. New York: Anson D.F. Randolph and Company, 1870. Bound in brown cloth with elaborate gilt titles and decorations to the spine and both boards. All page edges gilt. Small 8vo. Good. Prior owner bookplate to front pastedown. Prior owner inscription. Pencil inscription to recto of rear free endpaper. Otherwise, interior appears clean and unmarked, with no significant tanning or foxing. Spine has faded somewhat, but titles and decorations remain bright. Some closed tears between the spine and boards, but hinges are holding well. 5) The Poetical Works of Jean Ingelow. Illustrated. New York: Thomas Y. Crowell and Company. Brown cloth binding with stamped gilt, black, and red decorations to spine and front board. Prior owner inscription. All page edges gilt. 8vo. Good. Interior appears clean and unmarked with little foxing, mostly to the page edges. The last two blank pages have been torn out. Rubbing to extremities consistent with age. There is a tear to the top of the spine, not significantly affecting the decorations. The front hinge has broken and the rear hinge is very loose. 6) Buddha: His Life and His Teachings. Illustrated by Jeanyee Wong. Mount Vernon: Peter Pauper Press. Two volumes in one. Half maroon leather over brown cloth boards, with gilt edging the leather and with gilt titles and decorations to the spine. Marbled endpapers. Small 8vo. Good. Interior appears clean and unmarked.
