Description
A late Georgian gold clasp and two brooches. The clasp designed as an oval-shape mount with banded agate cabochon and bead surround, together with an early 19th century black garnet oval-shape brooch and a mid 19th century gold brooch. Clasp with engraving dated 1829. Length of clasp 3.5cms. Length of brooches 5.1 and 2cms. Total weight 21.3gms.
Overall condition fair to good. Some surface scratches/ wear, discolouration and minor dents in keeping with general age and wear. Clasp with brooch fittings, clasp broken. Engraving reads 'Sarah Fisher, obt 5 jan'y 1829. At 40.' Approximate dimensions of oval-shape mount 2.2 by 1.6cms. Banded agate with variation in size and strength of white band, some with discoloured crazing cracks. Black garnet with minor-moderate abrasion. Stones in good condition with minor abrasions. Larger brooch with small, more noticeable dents. Back glass panel deficient. Replacement base metal clasp, soft solder visible to pin hinge.
