Description
Roman-occupied Egypt, ca. late 1st century BCE. Small limestone carving of a ram's head with bifacially-drilled holes that connect to form a narrow spout running from back of head to mouth. Amun Khnum, one of the most ancient gods of Egypt, is depicted with a ram's head, because the ram was considered to be a very potent animal and was associated with fertility. This piece has the naturalism of Roman and late Egyptian sculpture. Size: 1.7" L x 0.6" W x 1.25" H (4.3 cm x 1.5 cm x 3.2 cm)
