Description
Mexico, ca. early 20th century CE. Oil on tin depiction of a kneeling woman holding a candle, obviously in a position of prayer, being watched over by the crucified Christ, the Virgin Mary, and a saint in red holding roses who is most likely Saint Rita of Cascia, a commonly depicted figure for ex-votos. St Rita is the patron saint of lost causes and impossible cases. This ex-voto, unlike many others, does not have accompanying narrative text. Size: 10" H x 7" W (25.4 cm x 17.8 cm).
