Lively summer landscape with men at work, their houses in the background, surrounded by abundant vegetation – intense in color and painted with broad brushstroke by the Danish painter Viggo Pedersen.

Condition:
The painting is in good condition. The varnish is darkened. Tiny craquelé can be seen in the lower left part of the canvas. There are areas with scuffing due to the frame along the upper edges and corners of the canvas and scattered marks can be seen. The painting has been skillfully repaired. One retouched spots can be seen affecting the part of the sky lower left. The frame is in good condition too with traces of usage and very few spots with loss of color at the outer edges. The dimensions are 73 x 95 cm and the frame measures 98 x 110.5 cm.

Viggo Christian Frederik Vilhelm Pedersen (1854-1926)
V. Pedersen was born in Copenhagen and the son of a family of artists. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1871 to 1878. His work was decisively influenced by the close contact with P.C. Skovgaard and J. la Cour. Pedersen undertook study trips and travelled through Europe and finally stayed in Munich for some time. He painted naturalistic landscapes and brightly colored figure paintings. His paintings are in major art museums in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki. (msc)
