A wonderful ensemble of pre-classic Pre-Columbian ceramic heads including Mayan, Colima, Jalisco, and Olmecoid examples!
1) Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmecoid, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. Finely modeled ceramic head with a visage reminiscent of Olmec babies; note the downturned mouth, slitted eyes, jutting jawline, puffy cheeks, and stylized coiffure upon this characteristically elongated head. Frosted lucite block stand. Head itself measures 3" (7.6 cm); 4.25" (10.8 cm) with stand
2) Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, Mayan, ca. 300 BCE to 250 CE. Next, a mold-made terracotta head with hollow back depicting a very dramatic visage with filed teeth, wide open eyes framed by large brows, a fanciful headdress, and earspools. Frosted lucite block stand. Head itself measures 2.75" (7 cm); 4" (10.2 cm) on stand
3) Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, Mayan, ca. 300 BCE to 250 CE. Another mold-made terracotta miniature head or mask with hollow back depicting a an expressive visage with a wide smile, large openings for eyes, a decorated helmet, and grand ear ornaments. Frosted lucite block stand. Head itself measures 1.75" (4.4 cm); 2.75" (7 cm) on stand
4) Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful clay head, finely modeled and adorned with applied earspools, coffee bean shaped eyes, full parted lips, and a neatly parted coiffure, all upon a characteristically elongated head. Frosted lucite cube stand. Head itself measures 2.25" (5.7 cm); 4.25" (10.8 cm) on stand.
5) Last but not least, the smallest of the group, a petite handbuilt ceramic head from the Colima culture, with applied headband or helmet with ear flaps or ornaments and a sweet little face. Square stone stand. Head itself measures 1.5" (3.8 cm); 2.375" (6 cm) on stand
