Description
A very large Etrusco-Corinthian red-figure olpe, c. 6th Century BC, the ovoid body with four registers of animals, including lions, panthers, bulls and swans, rosettes and floral elements in the field, a ring foot, a ridge at the base of the neck and rotellae to either side of the top of the handle, each decorated with a rosette. H: 15 1/8 in (38.5cm). A large example, the black glaze now an orange color, deposits throughout. Ex Dayton Art Institute; Howard Sirak collection, Columbus, OH.
