Description
English, circa 1475-1500. A Gothic stained glass window or door with square quarries inset with panel depicting a male donor cloaked in red accompanied by his wife in a blue gown, the pair kneeling in a Gothic church interior with a female attendant standing behind them, the figural scene surrounded by smaller panels adorned with foliate and floral painted decoration and a yellow shield form coat of arms with three black birds (three martlets sable). Glasses set in a later casement with leaded grid of glasses in a wood frame. Overall approximately 60.25" x 21". Period glass panel approximately 19.75" x 15.5". Provenance: Roy Grosvenor Thomas, New York, to 1923, whereby acquired by S. Vernon Mann, New York and Great Neck, NY, to 1932.
