Description
Hampton Shops (New York) first half 20th century. A marquetry inlaid walnut server or buffet, the rectangular burl walnut top, cross banded with foliate carved edge over a pair of short drawers raised and a pair of paneled cupboard doors, each door with individual locking mechanisms and decorated with marquetry floral bouquet within an oval banded medallion opening to a shelved interior and raised on two front S-scrolled and marquetry inlaid legs. Impressed mark to the back rail 'HAMPTON SHOPS, JL643 D'. Approximate height 32.5", width 50", depth 20.75". Note: Hampton Shops' was the name which was given for general publicity under the business Grand Rapids Furniture Co. Hampton Shops was located at 34 and 36 West 32 Street, New York. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs & Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
