Description
18th-19th century AD. A group of silver amulet cases each formed from a sheet of metal rolled to form a tube with domed ends, one end slides out for insertion of text from the Koran; two decorated with bands of scrolling plant motifs, smaller example with traces of blue enamel; one silver gilt with Arabic text on the body, row of suspension loops to the underside for pendants; one on a chain with plain, hexagonal body, openwork scrolled ends and five flower shaped pendants beneath; one hexagonal with remains of chain, body decorated with stamped lines, row of seven paisley shaped pendants; another with Arabic script in geometric patter, domed ends with striations, three suspension loops; one with abstract pattern along the body, numerous suspension loops for pendants, closing end missing; two amulets decorated with Islamic script and joined together by a green cord with tassels.
