Description
"Smada" was composed by Billy Strayhorn before he had even reached twenty-two years of age, but was not recorded by the Ellington Orchestra until 1951. Originally titled "The Ugly Duckling," it is supposedly dedicated to the Los Angeles disc jockey Joe Adams. This lead sheet of "Smada" is written in Strayhorn's handwriting. The composition is covers the front and reverse side of a single 12" x 9" sheet.
